Top 5 Easy Tips for every student to go Low Waste at School

Students are well aware of environmental hazards these days. Our education is limited to our examination. A lot of students are unaware of what to do & how to start. So, Here's a guide for children to go low waste in school.

 1. STOP using use & throw pen. Recycle must be your go 2: I cannot stress this enough, do not buy use & throw pens. As a student, it is difficult to afford eco-friendly pens. Then choose reusable pens. All you need to buy is refills. Another hack to reduce cost & packaging is to buy in bulk from wholesale markets. Choose products with minimal packaging. You should also choose products with packaging which can be repurposed. Do not forget to carry your bag.

2. Invest in reusable water bottle & Tiffin box: Say no to plastic. Refill your bottles whenever necessary. If your canteen serves food in plastic, bring in your tiffin box & request them to serve in it. Say no to the plastic straw.

    3. Use creative ideas to prepare your projects: Re purpose your existing stock of items. Yes, sometimes you might not have a choice. Even I didn't.  Even I had teachers who told us to finish projects using thermocol. Once my entire class was instructed to finish an entire project writing only on 1 side of the page. Guess the topic of the project "SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT." #truestory #makesnosense.

    4. Do not use plastic notebook cover to cover your books: Again you might not have much of a choice in the matter. I studied in a private school for almost 3 years (oh how I wish I could reveal the name) where students needed to cover their notes with clear plastic notebook cover. The reason being very lame. So, the school sold customized notebook (as if there weren't sneaking out enough money from us), the school logo & name would not pop up if any other form of notebook cover is used. Why did I think the school dress code was enough? #genuinequestion

        5. Avoid paper waste: Try to use both sides of the notebook especially while practicing. In school, we all have to abide as instructed, but we kind of have freedom elsewhere. It's not as if the concept of reuse is new to us. We all use unfinished notebooks from the previous year to practice at home. I used to bring back all those chart paper assignments. I use to hang it on the wall & use the empty side of the chart paper as a board to teach my non-existent student (I think I have acting skills more than teaching tho)

Adopt simple habits & make small swaps. Your goal should be to generate minimal waste. Keep reusing & recycling. ☺
